The sun was just cresting over the hill tops as Alexandra Punting zipped along the winding road. Humming happily along with the radio she felt content in her early morning routine. The golden light shifted to fall upon her and she smiled.
For three months now she was making her home in the Valley and was pleased with the results thus far. The quiet was exactly what she needed after the stress of the city life. Plus the perks of being her own boss were something else to add in the pro column of her list of benefits of her new home.
If things kept going according to her plan she would be the youngest person in her family to have made their fortune before their thirtieth birthday...But she was getting ahead of herself, and if it was one thing Alex knew it was not to allow musings to get in the way of reality.
She dealt with facts and numbers and the tangible only. Anything else only set one up for heart ache and pain. She had enough of those. More than her share really...
Frowning she decided to switch from the radio to her i-pod. Glancing down she fiddled with the buttons to find her favourite song when she saw movement out of the corner of her eye.
Horrified she watched as she sped towards a boy standing in the middle of the road. Slamming on the breaks she knew that her reaction was too slow...Cringing she waited for the inevitable impact.
The car skidded to a halt without as much as a bump.
Opening her eyes Alex looked around in disbelief. The mysterious boy was gone.....
Getting out she made sure that he wasn’t caught under her tires. She saw nothing but pavement. The road was deserted and the only sound was that of her well tuned engine.
Taking a few deep breaths and with shaking hands Alex climbed back inside and continued her drive to work.
Had she looked back in her rear view mirror she would have seen the boy staring at her with his head cocked to the side and a half smile on his lips.
